Connect your calendar
Folio lives next to your calendar, so the first thing to do is let it in. Takes about fifteen seconds — your events stay on your device.
Launch Folio
On first launch a short welcome tour introduces the basics — swipe through it, or tap Skip.
Allow calendar access
The moment the Calendar tab opens, iOS asks for permission automatically. Tap Allow Full Access so Folio can show and link your events.
Pick which calendars
In Settings → Calendars, choose which calendars appear in Folio — work, personal, or both. Change it any time.
Tip — Folio never moves or edits your calendar events. It only reads them so it can sit a note beside the right moment.
Create a note
There are two ways in: start from a calendar event so the note arrives pre-titled, or open a blank page when a thought just needs somewhere to land.
Tap an event
In the Calendar tab, open the day and tap the meeting you’re about to join.
Tap “Add note”
The note opens already titled with the meeting, its time, and attendees — no blank page.
Type — items capture themselves
Write naturally. Folio spots to-dos and pulls them into an action list as you go.
Tap the + button
From All Notes, tap the + in the corner to start a fresh note instantly.
Give it a title & write
Type a title and start writing or sketching. Everything saves automatically.
Link it to an event (optional)
Tap the link icon to attach the note to any calendar event, later or right away.
Organise with notebooks
Notebooks are Folio’s folders — colour-coded homes for related notes. Make a few, then file notes into them as you go.
Open Notebooks → New
Go to the Notebooks tab and tap + New Notebook.
Name it & pick a colour
Give the notebook a name and choose one of the warm accent colours.
Tap “Add to notebook”
In any note, tap Add to notebook in the note’s header, just under the title.
Choose the notebook
Pick the destination notebook from the list. The note picks up its colour.
Done — filed and synced
The note moves to that notebook and takes on its colour. Because your notebooks sync over iCloud, it's filed the same way on every device.
Master the AI Actions
Open any note, tap the ✦ button in the toolbar, and pick what you need. Actions come in four groups — Generate, Extract, Improve and Discover. Here’s every one, with an example of what it gives back.
Summary (TL;DR)
A two-line gist of a long note, for when you just need the shape of it.
Meeting Minutes
Formal minutes with decisions and action items, ready to circulate.
Follow-up Email Draft
A polished recap email addressed to the room, in your voice.
Action Items
Every to-do, with the owner and date where Folio can find them.
Decisions
Just the calls that were made — what got decided, not the debate.
Open Questions
The loose ends — things raised but not resolved.
Dates & Events
Every date mentioned, ready to add back to your calendar.
People & Entities
The names, teams and companies that came up, in one list.
Smart Format
Turns a wall of text into clean headings, bullets and checkboxes — without changing your words.
Suggest Title
Reads the note and proposes a clear, short title you can accept in a tap.
Suggest Tags
Proposes searchable tags from the note’s content, so your library organises itself.
Classify Note
Reads the note and labels its type — meeting, idea, call — and saves it to the note’s details.
How it runs — Folio uses Apple Intelligence to work right on your device; your content is never used to train a model. AI features need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with an M1 chip or later.
Going further
A few more things worth knowing once you’re settled in.
Sketch & annotate
Switch to the pencil to draw diagrams or mark up a page. On iPad, Apple Pencil and typing live side by side in the same note.
Search everything
Find any note in an instant — search matches titles, note content, attendees and tags, and jumps you straight into the note.
Export & share
Share any note as formatted text — title, attendees and content ready to paste into Mail, Word or your docs.
Sync across devices
Your notes sync through your own iCloud, so the note you start on iPhone is already open on iPad. Nothing to set up.
