1. Who we are
Folio is made by Folio App Studios ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Folio does — and, more importantly, doesn't do — with your information. It applies to the Folio app for iPhone and iPad and to this website, folioappstudios.com.
2. What we collect
As little as possible. Folio has no sign-up and no account — you never give us your name, email or a password to use the app. We do not operate analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and we do not build a profile of you.
The content you create — notes, sketches, tags, notebooks, action items — is stored on your device. We never receive a copy of it on our own servers.
3. iCloud sync
If you're signed in to iCloud, Folio syncs your notes across your own Apple devices through your private iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud infrastructure. This keeps the note you start on iPhone in step with your iPad. Your synced data sits in your iCloud, governed by Apple's privacy policy — not ours. We cannot see it, and there is no Folio account it passes through. You can turn iCloud off for Folio at any time in your device's iCloud settings.
4. How AI works — entirely on-device
Folio's AI features (summaries, meeting minutes, follow-up emails and action-item extraction) run entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence:
- On-device, full stop. Every AI action is processed locally on your device. Your note content is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
- No cloud AI. Folio uses no cloud AI service and no external AI API. There is no server that sees your notes.
- Never used for training. Your content is never used to train any AI model.
AI features require a device that supports Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later, or an iPad with an M1 chip or later). On other devices, every note-taking feature still works — only the AI actions are unavailable.
5. Calendar & reminders access
Folio asks for read access to your calendar so it can show your events and link notes to them. This happens on your device; your calendar is not transmitted to us. If you choose to add an action item to Apple Reminders, that uses your device's own Reminders — again, nothing flows through us. You can decline or revoke these permissions in iOS Settings, and Folio will still work for everything that doesn't need them.
6. Purchases
Folio is a one-time purchase handled entirely by the App Store. Payment is processed by Apple — we never see your card details. We receive only the anonymous purchase status Apple provides to confirm your access. There is no subscription and no recurring billing.
7. Keeping & deleting your data
Because your content lives on your device and in your iCloud, you control it. Delete a note in the app and it's gone. Delete the app, or clear its data from within it, and Folio's local content is removed. To remove synced copies, delete them on a synced device or manage Folio's data in your iCloud settings. We hold nothing to delete on your behalf.
8. Children
Folio is a productivity app for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — and, as above, we don't collect personal information from anyone.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how Folio handles data, we'll update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes so you're not surprised.
